2008 Box Office Hits By Druti

By Derek Fisch

I have made a sampling of the more popular movies put up on the big screen in 2008. This list consists of the movies I enjoyed watching this year. I'm sure that you can find a picture or two that are good viewing.

ROLE MODELS: Danny and Wheeler, a couple of energy drink promoters, might be seeing some hard jail time after destroying the company vehicle while binging. The way they can avoid going to prison is to work in community service for 150 hours. They will have to mentor some kids in a big brother type situation. The stage is set for some good comedy.

HAMLET 2: Failed actor Mr. Marshz has found himself teaching theater classes at the high school to uninterested students. When they lose a building at the campus, the school administation feels that the useless theater coarses must be eliminated. With a challenge now in front of him, he sets out to save the theater classes by producing Hamlet 2, a sequel to the original work, which he creates.

TROPIC THUNDER: With a collection of acting greats this outrageous flick is a spoof on vietnam war movies. To get better results from his spoiled actors to make a true epic masterpiece, the desperate director into the middle of nowhere, leaving them to fend for themselves. The object is to overwhelm them into the realism needed for a graet war film, that will be recorded on hidden cameras. When the director blows up on an old French land mine, the spoiled actors are on their own, and they think there acting, but things are getting very, very real. Written, directed, and acted in, by Ben Stiller.

10,000 B.C.: This film will take you back 1,000's of years. When mysterious warlords from another tribe attack the Yaghai's, they capture, among others, Evolet. A young hunter named D'Leh, who is in love with her, organizes a band of hunters to chase down these warmongers, and save her, and the rest of the captured tribe members.

JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH: Trying to find his lost brother, professor Trevor Anderson explores caves in Iceland, and that puts him on a journey to the center of earth. This is a newer edition of the 1959 production, that was created from the brilliant book by celbrated writer Jules Verne. Cast includes Brendan Fraser, Josh Hutchinson, Anita Briem, and Seth Myers.

Jumper: While almost drowning, David Rice (Hayden Christensen) learns he has an unbelievable ability. He has the ability to actually teleport himself to any place he wants to go, at any time. Eventually, he discovers that he is not alone in having this capability. After years of "jumping" around the planet, he is exposed to hunters that think jumpers are a threat, and need to be eliminated. He must fight for his life, as these paladins try to track him down.

GET SMART: Maxwell Smart (agent 86) is at it again, "and loving it". KAOS vs CONTROL, agents hidden in plants, and all the great one liners. This is a modern day version that looks back at the antics of Maxwell Smart.

ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO: The bills are piling up and Zack and Miri, roomates and good friends, need to come up with some cash soon. What's their solution? Easy, make a dirty movie. As you can imagine this is a perfect enviornment for a great comedy.

STEP BROTHERS: When two child like older men, who both live at home with one parent, find themselves having to live in the same bedroom because their mom and dad get married, you have one crazy situation. Put Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly acting as these two idiots, and the conditions are right for a very fun film. This comedy looks like a best bet for comedy lovers.

Most people buy or rent films when the come out on DVD, and views them on their home entertainment system. A new way people are aquiring movies is by downloading them directly off websites. There are websites that will download tons of different movies.
