Vintage Rolex Watch as a Status Symbol

By Marcus Welby

Rolex watches are well known all over the world. They are best known as an almost iconic form of status symbol for the very wealthy, the very high class, and the very fashionable. This was no doubt the express purpose of those who make these watches. After all, when you want to dress to impress, a Rolex watch should be involved somewhere in the mix. They are impressive. They always have been. When you consider the time and effort which goes into making a single watch, you can see why. It takes longer than a year to put together one watch. More than two hundred and twenty minute little pieces go together to make one.

It is thus no wonder that a Rolex is such a flashy, almost ostentatious watch. It is designed to show status. That is one reason this is definitely one unmistakable watch. Of course, that is what most of the people who wear Rolexes want. They want it to be seen.

As you might thus expect, buying a Rolex can cost you quite the pretty penny. They are so expensive that some people seriously go through financing options in order to buy one. Such efforts are considered worth it, since the end result is getting to wear a Rolex watch on your wrist. When you wear one, presumably, all the things associated with them - respect, prestige, wealth - are yours for the taking.

Founded back in 1905, people have been buying Rolexes for well over one hundred years. In a day and age where trends seem to change every five minutes, that is a serious accomplishment. In 2003 alone, Rolex grossed around three billion dollars. Popularity like that makes it easy to see why Rolex is one of the top brands which it comes to luxury watches.

At one point in time, a Rolex watch was a status symbol for the very, very wealthy. That is to say, businessmen wore them. Men, all told, of leisure. These days, however, people wear them at work, at play, during evening events, and naturally as the perfect complement to a formal outfit.

There are many social groups and subcultures which have helped propel Rolex to its iconic status. For example, mainstream musicians who enjoy showing their success through the jewelry they wear love Rolexes. The more flash the better, and Rolex certainly covers that.

That is, in part, what has made it become so popular among more than just the high, wealthy class. That is also the reason why certain people are willing to finance their purchase of a Rolex watch. Whether this is good or bad is really a matter of personal opinion.

Rolex is not going anywhere. It has proved itself as a status symbol over the years. The fact that it is still popular today proves that it is an icon among luxury watches and jewelry. The ingenuity behind putting together one of these watching makes it easy to see why it is so important. A lot of people actually collect Rolexes. This just goes to show why it is deserving of its prestige.
