Getting to Know Wedding Etiquette

By Mary Thomas

Wedding etiquette has been explained in a variety of books for many years, and these books are not just for snooty socialites at their sometimes gaudy weddings. Wedding etiquette is important because this is a special occasion that brings many different people together to witness a ceremony about love, devotion and commitment.

We often forget that the bride and groom combined will probably know almost everyone at the wedding but that is not the case for both families involved and then of course there are friends as well. This is one of the reasons wedding etiquette was first introduced, to help prevent any potential problems arising from large groups of people who are unfamiliar, gathering together.

While it is always hoped that the couple getting married have not done this many times before, so will not be aware of all the pitfalls, writers of wedding etiquette books have much more experience at arranging successful weddings and organising a wedding venue. These books are well worth the expense as they can not only help to prevent certain situations but also how to solve most of the problems that occur.

In fact, many couples who are to be wed actually use these books as wedding planners, which places them in a very strong position when it comes to the wedding arrangements and wedding venue management. When you have attended a number of weddings, it is quite clear to see who has studied wedding etiquette before they arranged their wedding day.

A good wedding etiquette book covers many different subjects that should make each bride and groom more comfortable at their wedding because they start with the guest lists and the wedding invitations. These guides also ensure you do not overlook important matters and provide a time line by which you can gauge how long it will take to arrange each particular part.

Left on their own, wedding guests will often sit in the completely wrong place at the wedding but this type of guide will make sure this does not happen and who best to invite to your wedding. The etiquette is important because it will help with an organization so no one will be slighted or insulted in the course of a very hectic time.

The people that write the etiquette know about deadlines and the consequences of failing to resolve important issues on time. A wedding etiquette guide cannot run your wedding or make it special, only you and your guests can do that but it will help with the planning and smooth running on the day if you follow the rules. Not using a wedding etiquette guide does not mean your wedding day will be a failure but you will notice the difference and you might be more stressed as a consequence.
